'lo all.

I'm wondering if there are any particular brands to avoid when looking to pick up a "milspec" receiver extension, or if anyone has a brand in particular to recommend. I'm not looking to blow the family fortune on one; I'm not busting BGs in Afghanistan, or fighting off hordes of zombies at the moment. I'm just looking for something that will bolt right up, won't break after 300 rounds, and will allow the "milspec" size buttstocks. Nothing fancy.

Thanks ahead of time for any answers, and for your patience with what I am sure is a rookie question :)

I have never had a problem and have used several different brands with a lot of rounds through them.  Even the UTG I picked up for like $15 has been fine.  I'm sure others will chime in, but I have never had an issue with any of the several I have owned, nor have I heard of any issues from any of my friends builds.

My personal favorite is the LMT. It has a nice dry-film lube and a sweet design on the retaining pin lip that makes installation a breeze. Stag actually makes a nice receiver extension. Both are going to cost around $40. The advantage to these is that they use 7075 aluminum, which is stronger than lower-cost alternatives such as DSA (and perhaps RRA, DPMS, etc.).

Daniel defense and Colt would be other good options, but they are trickier to find.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Will I need a new buffer spring as well? When I compared my extension this morning to my buddies mil-spec size extension, we noticed mine was, ahem, longer than his. Will using my longer stock spring cause an issue in a shorter tube?
Also, while I'm at it, does anyone know whether or not an aftermarket recoil reduction buffer such as the ones from Spikes will fit in a commercial tube?

Lots of rookie questions, I know, but I'm eager to learn.

Thanks again,

Owen
