I am new to AR-15's.  I am currently building an AR 15 lower from PSA stripped lower, PSA LPK and MOE stock.

I want to use my AR-15 for plinking and possibly small game (ie coyotes, groud squirrels, etc).  I have been discussing this with a buddy who already has an AR.  He mentioned that a twist rate of 1:9 would be best because it can handle lower grain ammo, thus it is cheaper to go plinking.

As far as barrell legnth and the other specs, I am not sure about.  What would you guys recommend?

55 gr is the cheap stuff and it will work out of a 1:7 too.

a 1:7 would be more versatile if you ever want to use heavier ammo at greater distances, like maybe a 68gr for huting deer or pig

1:9 might have the edge if you want to drop down into the 40gr bullet range

If you are on a budget pick up one of the 16'' stainless steel barreled uppers from PSA. Mine is very accurate and reliable. Once I get my Burris scope mount in I will throw a scope on it and see how accurate it is.
