So i will be completing my first AR in the next few weeks when the tax check comes in and i have not yet quite decided on what barrel length i want with my upper. So my question is what kind of range differences can I expect from a 16" and a 20" barrel. From a visual perspective i really like the looks of a 20" barrel. The rifle will primarily be used for target practice while camping and such. Maybe some pig hunting down the line. Just dont know if i will be limiting myself as far as range goes if i went with a 16" barrel. Any info from you pros would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

There are alot of variables including caliber, rifling, and ammunition.  The length of the barrel is generally a compromise between velocity/accuracy and portability.  Personally I prefer the 16"

Profile and quality of the barrel will have more to do with accuracy than the length. I prefer 20" barrels myself because I like running rifle length gas systems and they increase your sight radius. I also find a rifle with a longer overall length more stable for off hand shooting.

Do what every one else does when they come to that dilemma and get an 18 inch barrel

I am a total newb when it comes to this so I apologize if this is a dumb question, but what do you mean by "profile" of the barrel?
