Hey Guys,

Don't know if I am making this harder than needs to be but I have a M&P 15 Sport and live in mass so it has the fixed stock.  Anybody have any experience removing these stocks?  The L lever on the stock doesn't move like regular stocks to remove them.  I am putting another fixed stock on just a better quality one.  Thanks.

It is most likely pinned in place. You'll have to remove the pin(s) before changing the stock, and re-pin it to keep it legal.

They are pinned like he said. Do you have any pics?

Also, where in MA are you? I am in Franklin.

What stock are you going to put on?  Do you think it would be worth it to get a new buffer tube with the new stock?  Just spit balling here.

You're going to have to remove the whole thing. What are you planing on replacing it with?

Probably not worth the trouble of trying to remove the stock, versus just buying another buffer tube.  YMMV.

So I would buy a new buffer tube and then the new stock? And I was thinking about putting a Magpul stock on, any other good stocks to think about?

buy a DSA mil spec receiver extension

buy a Magpul MOE stock

pin with a few roll pins and be done.

If you want to keep it simple/cheap, remove the Allen head bolt on the L lever and the S&W stock will slide right off. The masshole buffer tube extends all the way to the end of the stock, so it can't be pinned shorter. It also has only one position hole which is tapped to accept the L lever Allen bolt, and a slightly larger O.D. than a military spec tube.

To install an aftermarket collapsible type stock on a masshole buffer tube you must drill-out the tapped hole bigger so the new L lever position pin will fall into place. Then use a rubber mallet to tap the aftermarket stock onto the buffer tube until the position pin falls in place, it will be tight but it'll go on. Then pin it in place and your good to go. I installed a VLTOR on my M&P15 and it looks great and is rock solid. I'll try to post pics but right now photobucket is not working for me.

This is my current favorite fixed stock...it also comes in rifle length if you don't shoot nose to charging handle.
