Thanks for the review. I have been debating about getting a B5 SOPMOD stock as I love this stock after being issued one.

Have you ever noticed any issues with the metal plunger on the LMT stocks being too long? I had to file the top of the plunger down on my issue one. I assume it's LMT but it did not say so on the package and the latch does not have the LMT logo on it like some of the others I've seen in the Army. I threw the packaging out before I could get the CAGE code off of it to look up the manufacturer.

Thanks for the review.  Interested in your impressions of the stock after a few thousand rounds on it.  I like the option of more colors.

I just use a CAA stock saddle. It's not like it could ever fail or anything. Seriously. It's not like it could somehow fail.

I'm very familiar with these. And all I can really say is, I'm glad you like yours. But, I'd venture to guess CAA hasn't sold a fraction of their add on as any of the companies who make some of the more popular stocks.

I'll make do with whatever stock is on a rifle and shoot the gun as best I can. But I really don't want to take a piece, which has the tendency to loosen up, and put it on top of an already, typically loose fitting stock. I'm not paying anything for the chance to do that.

New-arguy, where did you get your B5?  I have been keeping an eye on the inter-webz for the last couple of months and haven't had any luck yet.

Thanks for the link.  After a quick search, looks like I just missed a couple in the EE too

Interesting. The SOPMOD is hands down my favorite stock. I might have to give this a shot in FDE when they are readily available.

They can fail - flimsy plastic and thin screws can always fail.

I'd venture to guess you've never really dropped the rifle on it's stock?

ETA:  Neil, great review, lots of good detail.  Will probably pick one of these up in the future for comparison, though as of now, I've got the capability to equip most of my non-retro clone carbines with a SOPMOD already.

thank you very much for the review, these have had my interest  since I could never figure out why LMTs cost so much (yet i love them so), also glad to hear they fixed the fitment issue.

Any difference in what it is made of, or the finish?

Sort of. I presume it's the same material, however, the letter I received said it contained more resin and glass.

Sadly, I have no idea. I can tell you that I would be surprised if I heard the B5 was weaker in any way. I'm not am engineer or materials guy. But, I've handled a lot of stocks. Stocks of good quality, stocks of very good quality, as well as poor quality stocks. Unscientific as it is, my subjective judgement would be that the B5 is a very good quality stock.

It doesn't get too frigid here in FL, but I compete about once a month and try to practice as least as much. Sometimes more. I'll be shooting the stock more this winter, and while I have no plans to abuse it, I do plan to bump it around and subject it to reasonable wear and tear, drops and heavy use.

I got one of the early B5 stocks.

Good thing i never adjust my collapsable stocks. Because once i got it on it is never comming off.

Update.

After being in place for a month the stock appears to have stretched to fit the receiver extension. I am now able to adjust the stock position though it still takes greater eeffort than it should.

Another SOPMOD copy?  Didn't we go through this about seven years ago?  If it turns out to be a weaker material and wollers out the latch pin hole, I came up with a fix for that.

Not really a "copy." B5 is a USGI supplier. Govt approved alternative to the LMT sold (KAC manufactured) SOPMOD.  As to why the military felt it was necessary to award B5 a contract to produce these? No idea.

That's good to know.

I worked a small stint on the Navy's Seawolf submarine program.  Every once in a while, some .mil brass get their panties in a wad if they only have one supplier of Widget A.  Seawolf had some of that in the program.  Maybe this is one of those times.

According what LMT is hinting at, the price point was what won B5 the contract.

Ouch, maybe this will lead to cheaper SOPMODs.

Those actually are very functional, but... the plugs can vibrate out and the sling attachment is turned parallel to the rifle.  If they sorted out those issues they'd have something.

The B5 cost the military $12/ea. That said, LMT has no plans to drop the price on their SOPMOD

I would venture their production volume will drop due to their lack of competitiveness.

Well first KAC would have to drop the price they charge LMT to make them for them.

Lots of guessing going on. I find it unlikely anyone here knows what KAC charges LMT and if that price is a factor or not. Chances are, people will know at SHOT in January if LMT will have a different price on their stocks. I would hope so, or I too find it unlikely they will be selling very many. I'll be seeing LMT at SHOT, but I also have plans to see RPT (B5).

True.. No plans could turn into plans, I emailed LMT regarding the subject of the B5 and their pricing. I'd post the exact answers but you know companies these days, with their privacy clauses

Some people are complaining of the Gen II B5's still being too tight. The latches not being tight enough. The rubber butt plate being too glossey and falling off in routine handling.

Might want to wait for Gen III
