I recently bought 3 MPC marked bolts in VG-Excellent condition.  During inspection, I noticed diagonal "cuts" at the base of each locking lug, which look like this:

Searching the archives, I could find only one reference to these cuts in 2006, but no explanation of what purpose they might serve.

My initial thought would be a relief cut for a LMG bolt, but again, saw no reference to this.

Mostly likely just the tool that cuts the angle on the bottom of the lugs does it. Bolt is round so it over cuts to get the angle on the whole lug.
Some bolts have a tear drop looking cut there from the tool that company uses to make the cut.
Seen a few bolts with no over cuts there of any type.
Seen a few bolt that did not even have the angle cut on the bottom edge of the locking lug. They functioned ok.

Yeap, its just a artifact of the machining process when the bolt lug leade in was cut. Some are slash cut as shown and others have a half moon shape cut into the lug root.It has no other mechanical purpose or lug stress relief etc..
