What are the advantages of a charging handle such as a BCM Gunfighter over a standard CH? I understand that the bigger latch, such as the type offered by Badger Ordinance, makes for an easier pull, but are there other advantages?
I am looking into my options, as the standard CH I recently recieved feels gritty and is difficult to disengage from the notch in the upper. I won't name the supplier, as I'm awaiting a response from them. However, this charging handle is not smooth and easy to pull like the one on my M16 I carried while at OCS recently, or other AR's I've handled. Does the latch spring just need a break in period? Thanks! |
| My guess would be the rifle you handled at OCS has been the rifle of a whole lot of people before you. After a zillion times being charged... it's bound to be pretty smooth. The main benefit of the Gunfighter is the stress of charging the rifle is taken off the latch pin and placed on the body of the handle itself. You gotta look at whats going on inside to see the pros of having one. That said....I've never broke a charging handle yet. I don't doubt that it happens...I just haven't had it happen to me. I replaced my latch with a Badger one and it works fine too. The reasoning behind the latches is the ability to actuate with larger scopes mounted and a bigger place to sweep your hand when recharging (easier to grab a big latch rather than a small one). I'd bet that yours has a burr or machineing flaw that is catching on your handle. You could clean it up with a little sandpaper or let the company fix it as it is their flaw. I'd go the latter if I was you, but I believe in holding a company accountable for their QC. |
