I am looking for a midlength to rifle length free float tube. I own a troy TRX rail as well as a Apex Machine handguard. I prefer the smaller OD tube on both models. Any recommendations for a manufacturer on a simple aluminum tube versus the larger diameter free floats Hogue, DPMS, and YHM have to offer?

How about the Daniel Defense MFR? I just received one but it isn't installed yet.

Recently installed a JP Precision FF tube on my SPR build. You have to buy accessory rails if you want them, but I just needed a stud for a bipod, which it comes with already. It simple, clean, light weight, and isn't huge. I like it.

Aren't they 2" like the other tubes styles you mentioned?

I'll have to check on that, now that you mention it. I had a LaRue 12" on there before the JP, and it was a NICE rail. However, I didn't need all that rail space, and when you add rail covers (not just ladders), it made it substantially bigger. Of course, if you left the covers off, it wasn't nearly as "pleasing" to the touch. I'd own another LaRue in a heartbeat if I needed the rail space, but I was going for simple and light for an SPR.

If you are going for a SPR why not go with the PRI tube?

Well, I'm not going for an SPR clone, more of an SPR-type rifle. I got a great deal on the JP and was able to turn around and sell the LaRue to get some money back. I don't care so much what the rifle looks like, more that it's a shooter. Haven't had a chance to take it out yet due to a workplace injury, but I'm hoping for 3/4MOA or so. If I can get that out of it, I'll be stoked.

+1 on the JP tubes, they are well vented and do not get as hot. You may also consider painting it FDE to ward off the sun.

I had the whole rifle (minus the stock) Cerakoted in MagPul FDE. I may Krylon it afterwards, but I want to see how it shoots first. I'll get pics up in the Precision Rifle section once I get the scope mounted and zeroed.
