| What are the reasons someone would use a VLTOR CASV hand guard? I'm looking on line for a good review and all I can find is that it looks cool. If it has a good purpose it’s got my interest. |

Uses standard barrel nut and delta ring.
Simple swap out from regular handguards. (do have to remove front sling swivel though) Freefloat. One inch extra length over a carbine length handguard due to the cutout for the FSB. Solid top rail the whole way out. Can mount optics anywhere on rail without bridging. |

Quoted: Ok cool and it pretty cost effective. What about optics co witnessing? Because of the higher rail, it is a lower 1/3 cowitness, with the LT152. I do not know if other sights will cowitness. The CASV is nice because it free floats, does not require you to cut the slip ring (great for issued firearms) and is more solid than say, the TRX. It is not the lightest weight free float HG out there, but it is not the heaviest, either. MM has a nice review of it, though it is from 2006-07 timeframe. I like it a whole lot more than the SIR. |

Bottom half of the handguard is very easy to remove. Easy install, and solid. Comes with rail sections to mount where you want.
Only drawback is if you're using an eotech and you want to use your irons through the eotech window. no go. Quick and easy attachment. No tools needed except for the allen wrenches provided. |

There is room at the rear of the CASV for a buis to mount to the upper receiver.
My Troy fits perfectly behind the CASV. I'm using an Aimpoint ring with about a half inch rise (guesstimate) with a ML2, mounted on the CASV, and get slightly more than a 1/3, but less than an absolute co-witness. |
