Is there anything special about these or are they just a Mil-Spec trigger group thats been coated in Nickel Boron? By special I mean did someone do a "trigger job" to them prior to coating.
Reason I ask is I'm getting close to the end of a build and this trigger thing is coming up. All I seem to come accross is glowing reviews on the Gissele, Wilson Combat TTU and the like. Problem is, $200 and up is a lot of coin to drop on a trigger. I know, quality costs....but damn. Wanting to see if others Spikes, Mega etc. gave the same performance for less money. While I doubt they'd be the same, how much performance am I missing out on?

nope, nothing special really... they are smooth as butter and crisp, but they are basically a milspec FCG underneath the coating... for what its worth they are awesome for what they are.

I have 2 of them myself.  I have a Geissele S3G coming monday, ill be doing a mini comparison between the 2 but i am assuming from hearsay that they aren't going to be comparable at all haha.

I've got both the spikes NiB Battle Trigger and the Mega Tactical trigger.

The spike's NiB kit is noticeably better than milspec. I do not yet have a scale, but it is lighter with smoother creep.

The mega trigger is interesting. It adjusts via set screws so that you have little to no overtravel and an almost instant reset. I have not played with mine using different hammers but it is noticeably lighter yet with a crisper break than the Spikes NiB kit. One thing I should try is the spikes NiB hammer with the Mega trigger.

There is a reason why the S3G and triggers like it cost what they do. You are not going to approach that kind of performance with less expensive kits.

+1

I can guarantee they wont come close.  Don't waste the money to eval. both, just buy the Geiselle

FWIW, I'm really loving the SD3G I just dropped in my comp rifle.

They are not that much more than stock set cost wise.  With a TTI reduced power hammer spring the pull is nice and light, crisp.

I would compare the Spikes to a good mil spec trigger. Its a decent trigger for the money, but nothing like my Geissele's.

I had the Spikes Battle Trigger - it was just an "alright" trigger.  Nothing special about it at all.  I also have a coated LWRC stock trigger - now that one, combined with some David Tubbs CS springs, is an excellent GI trigger - I have not come across a better GI trigger (and I have used a lot of them).  It is however more expensive than the spikes.

But as the guys above have said....there really is no comparison between the Spikes and more dedicated high end triggers such as the Geisseles and JPs etc.  If performance is your aim, hold off and get a dedicated aftermarket trigger.  I do think that the Spikes/LWRC/etc coated triggers probably do have some benefit as regards longevity however, as the coating is hard stuff - so if you want a stock GI trigger that is really long lasting, that is where their place is.
