Hello all,
It's been many years since I've posted here. Lots of changes! Anyway, got a quick question. I've been scouring the net for info regarding a lower receiver I purchased over 10 years ago. It's a DPMS that has model C-15 engraved on the magazine well housing. It looks forged to me, but not sure. Can anyone give me additional info? Is this a good receiver? If so, I'm thinking of replacing the upper with a flat top and an M4 barrel - or perhaps go with a gas operated upper. http://jamespaulsarte.com/temp/weapons/DSC00072.JPG http://jamespaulsarte.com/temp/weapons/DSC00073.JPG |

Depends on your thoughts on a cast lower Don't really have any thoughts on that, positive or negative. I've read about cast receivers being just as good, and some forged receivers being pretty lousy. The only AR knowledge I have is from this rifle and memories of my service weapon when I was in the Army. I dug around a bit more and it seems the rifle I have is a Century Arms C-15. Built on a DPMS lower using South American Colt uppers. Trigger group from what I've read also appears to be Colt origin. I haven't fired this rifle in a while, but I do recall getting good groups with it last time out. No malfunctions either. Anyway, I was more interested in actual info on the DPMS lower. I'll probably keep the Colt upper as a spare, and as stated before, replace with a flat top and M4 barrel. Just wanna know if this particular receiver is an ok platform to build on or if I should replace with something else. Grateful if you or anyone else can comment. I think its a cast lower. As cheap as lowers are right now I'd replace it. You can
get a decent lower for $100.00. Also if it were mine I'd look up when it was made. If it is a preban lower you could sale it for a good amount to someone from a communist state like NY or CA for quite a bit of money to fund your build. But I'm not sure how long DPMS has been in business. |

But I'm not sure how long DPMS has been in business. I believe DPMS has been around for some time. They still make ARs and receivers. What is odd to me is that the receiver seems to have a mix of features found on both cast and forged lowers. That's why I can't be completely certain. Plus, from what i've read about the C-15 sporter, some owners claim that the DPMS lower is indeed forged. Just to satisfy my curiosity though, I'll call DPMS on Monday and ask. |

Yes it is cast (the raised letters and numbers are a give away). OP that computor have Right margin? Damn near wore out my slide bar reading this post ![]() LOL.. sorry about that. Pictures seem to have resized themselves on my 14" laptop screen; no scrolling necessary for me. P.S. The FIRE and SAFE words aren't raised. That's one of the reasons why I couldn't be sure... |

Looking at the texture and all the raised letters is what makes me think cast.
Raised letters are harder to do on forged recievers, thats why most all letters or markings are stamped. Yes, DPMS does still make ARs. In fact I believe they are one of the largest AR companies. I've built several builds using DPMS lowers and never had a problem. ETA 458winmag types faster than me |
