I want to know what upper is a good pick that I could later camo for snow or woodland?

So far what looks good for a varmint/coyote upper assembly is either Bushmaster or RRA's Coyote

I've check out some other places, but from personal experience what is a good upper?

Also, since the Coyote has Hogue grips is that a problem to get that camoed? Will the camo (duracoat, etc.) wear off faster on rubberized surfaces?
Is it pretty lightweight too?

Would also like this upper to be no less than 18"

Dude, what else would you like? A 50 BMG derringer?

When you say "varmint" AR, you imply long range shooting at small targets, i.e., gophers, prairie dogs, rock chucks, ground hogs, etc.

For this, you do not want an 18" barrel. I've kilt more prairie dogs than the plague, and I recommend 24" 1/10 or 1/12 twist if you can find it.

Varmints want to blow up. It's why God put them on the earth. If you want to blow 'em up real good, you need speed. Speed's what you need. Greasy fast speed. 40 grain ballistic tips on top of compressed loads of AA2460.

As for camo- meh. When you go yote hunting, wrap it.

Epic

But for the distances I'm looking at 200 yards would be the max, I'm not going to be shooting Prairie Dogs any time soon since I don't think any live in Alaska
Plus I don't really want to lug 24" of stainless bull barrel through the woods for a couple miles, hence 18" and or 20" and lightweight

But if you 24" what brand do you use?

One of my best shooters is a RRA 24" bull barreled upper.

It is definitely a tack driver.

I bought my last one from RRA (like genius below)

1/12 twist. I think it's actually a Wilson barrel.

Ya gots ta haz the Wylde chamber, yo.

And do tell, what constitutes a varmint in AK?

I would get a White Oak Armament barrel or they can make you a upper.

I had an RRA 18" Bull Upper and the Belding's Blew up just fine.
Decapitations were the norm.
40 V-Max's are Awsome

Looks I might be asking for the wrong upper, I'm looking at taking Coyote, Lynx, and Fox

So would something with a lower twist rate around 1:9 or 1:8 be better for animals that size using 55gr?

Now you're talking a totally different gun altogether.

My coyote gun is a 16" carbine.

In reality any quality 16-18" carbine or middy will do just fine for your purposes. 1:8 vs1:9 won't really matter shooting 55-60gr bullets. Both will likely work well. Just find a quality upper in your price range and start shooting!
