Does anyone have any thoughts on barrel life? I currently run a stainless 20" H profile barrel thats had about 5000rd through it. Groups are starting to open a fair bit and the rifling is beginning to look worn. I just wondered if that sounds about right for something thats has that many rounds through.

How hard do you run it?  The round count seems a bit low to start seeing problems.

some perspective

Well its UK spec so its straight pull so no semi or full auto fire. I dont particularaly use hot loads, usually about 22gr of N133 with a 68gr Hornady head.

For a while though I was using S&B  70 gr heads until it came to light that they were actually between .225 and .228 in diameter, that said Ive not heard of anyone having a problem.

I do. Usually Hoppes but at the moment Im using one of the foam type. Cant think the maker off hand.

Use Sweet's 7.62 copper remover.  It is much stronger/agressive than Hoppes.  I had a similar problem as you do with my Chrome lined barrel.  Several good soakings of the Sweets helped bring it back to near new condition.

As far as I know, Sweets is not available here but I will have a look and see if I can find it. The foam Im using is Birchwood Casey.

Bore tech also makes a great copper remover.

5,000 rounds and it's toast as far as a precision rifle.  Verify with a bore scope.

Wish you guys could use the gas tube, but straight pull is better than no rifle at all.  :(

Pro-Shot and Butchers are available. I will give them a try.

Yes I think as a precision rifle its had its day. Im hoping to get a second upper (if the police allow it) and will use that for precision and this one for plinking until I can get round to rebarrelling it.

Yes straight pull is better than nothing. I would still prefer semi auto and the freedon to buy more than one but at least I can still shoot a black rifle. Shame we cnat have any hand guns to go with the rifles.
