Does it really make a difference in reliability? In theory the rounded hammers like DPMS uses should be more reliable than the notched colt & bushmaster hammers. But has anyone noticed a practical difference?

Makes a difference with 22 conversions. Rounded is best.

Other than with a .22, I never had problems with a notched hammer.
But again, the system was designed with a FA carrier and rounded hammer. That's what I use in all mine.

My .22 dedicated runs on a notched hammer with no issues.  It is VERY reliable.

The only reason to use a notched hammer is if you want your weapon to not work in certain situations. That's what it was designed to do.

IIRC you need the rounded hammer with some 9mm conversions too.

My Bushmaster has a notched hammer. I never had any problems with it.

I prefer the rounded, no-notch hammers for the versatility.  They run well in standard 5.56, 9mm and .22 applications.
