| Sharp mil spec receivers any good? Pros / cons? |
|
Lower receiver I am assuming?
As long as it is forged aluminum, drilled/machined to mil-spec, it will be no better or worse than any other lower on the market. FWIW, I have been using Essential Arms lowers on my rifles because the finish is nice and they are consistently in spec and the price is right as well. Plus it really says something about a company that didn't jack up the prices during the post-election frenzy when so many others hiked the price (Spike's- looking at you). I have used Superior Arms as well but the example I got from them was horribly out of spec and required fitting to assemble. |

I got 1 from R Guns when they were 55 bucks. |

Frankengun with junk scope? I wouldn't buy it. You can buy a kit from J&T for $ 500, a lower for under a $ 100 and have a decent rifle for less than that guy wants for a pos scope and a cheapo dpms franken upper. Keep things in perspective. In 2004 after the ban ended I bought an Lmt upper and put together a lower on a Colt pre ban lower. I shot that gun almost exclusively from 2004 until 2010. I shot thousands and thousands and thousands of rounds. I ran cases and cases of wolf through it, I also ran cases and cases of military ammo through it. I had a gas ring go wrong, other than that I had not a single problem with it. I took it to carbine classes, competitions, and generally shot the shit out of it. A decent AR15 will last most shooters their entire lifetime. |

Quoted: Thanks Aimless. I think I'll pass. Considering I picked up a very early JLD PTR-91 for $850 about four months ago which was/is virtual brand new I'll take your advice. Thanks again! http://a.imageshack.us/img836/4964/ptr.jpg I had an earliy ptr and it had some reliability issues (which have been fixed) it seemed pretty accurate |
