I just noticed this on both of my new DD M4's that I got. Ordered them from Rainer Arms right before I came back from Iraq back March or April of this year. Well I finaly got around to shooting them and getting them zeroed in along with the Aimpoint I had and then with the EOTech. Well I was cleaning them today and when I took the uppers off of the lowers I saw one with some bad wearing inside of the upper. The first one with the worst wear on both sides of the inside of the upper only has 275 rounds of M855 62GR ammo and using a 20 round PMAG.

The second one is starting to show some bad wear on the inside like the other one but just started. It only has 75 rounds of M855 62GR ammo throught it, but like I stated it is starting to wear just like the first one is. These were bought at the same time and they are brand new and I am the only one that has fired them. Has anyone else had this problem with their DD's or another AR upper they have or had. Does this mean the upper reciever was not properly finished before it was put together and put on a lower. I think I need to get a hold of Daniel Defense and see have to they have to say about it.

Here are the pic's:

First off, that isnt bad wear, at all. I know your gonna inspect items you paid for with much moreattention then you would an Issued weapon, but the wear you show is a non issue really.

Second, think about what the only thing that could contact the carbine in that area could be. Its from a magazine. One of your mags, i suspect a metal mag mag, either sets too high in the weapon (Mag is out of spec), OR, someone has been doing very forceful mag insertions, slamming them in very forcefully, with the bolt locked back. My advice?

1. Find the bad mag, OR
2. Stop slamming mags into your weapon as hard as you can with your bolt locked back.

Well the only mag I use when zeroing is a 20 round PMAG and that is all I use to zero with as the 30 round mags are to long when I am down in the prone supported position. Second I was not slamming the mag in I take my time when zeroing and I just slide the mag in until it seats and I hear it click in with the mag catch and everything. Then I look and observe the mag through the ejection port to make sure it is up in the magwell like it should be. Third this is the second time I took them out to shoot them since I got them and when I took them apart today to clean them I noticed the wear on the inside of the recievers.

To me this is some pretty bad wear inside the upper with only shooting 275 rounds through it and not using meatal mags and just PMAGs. The other one shows it is starting to get the same wear marks on the inside of it. I would not expect this type of wear from using a PMAG and just sliding it in like I do. I have yet to put a mteal mag in one of these so I know that is not what is causing this on the inside of the recievers.

OK the real question is .... is that normal wear or not.  If not what is the cause.   One good thing about it..... it is Daniel Defense and their CS is top notch.

That is what I am trying to figure out myself. I did notice some wear on BCG's that I have not normaly seen with the amount of rounds I have put throughthese compared with other AR's or even my issued M4. I know with my issued M4 I started seeing some wearing on the inside of the upper and the BCG but that was after a few thousand round of both shooting in semi and in the burt mode.
