I Have a bone stock Bushmaster 16" m4a3 that I want to put rails on in order to attach a VFG. can anybody point me in the right direction on this. Is installing them a do it yourself project?

I like LaRue's rails. They are not hard to install if you have the proper tools like punches, vise block, armorer's tool ect. LaRue's website has a video showing how to install them.

DD Omega, piece of cake install, no taking off your FH or FSB. Solid.

+1 on the KAC rails, they just install like regular handguards. It's what the military uses on their M4s and M16A4s

Another +1 for KAC RAS's. They're military proven, and can be found on the EE for cheap. They feel solid, and the VFG and rail panels feel comfortable in my hand.

KAC rails are good, but don't even think of buying them new. You can find them on the EE at any time for $150 or so, but they go for over $300 new.

I've found some new sets on Ebay for around $150-175
