I just shot out the second barrel on my COLT used for 3-gun. The original Colt was a 1/9" heavy, unchromed that did pretty well with 3 tubs of SA 55gr. The second was a DPMS 1/9" heavy unchromed barrel I got from Brownell's at a reasonable price and it didn't shoot as long as the COLT.
I was surprized that I was able to use the same gas tube, bolt, carrier etc (except gas rings and extractor & ejector springs) for TWO barrels! Now I think I'll try a chrome lined barrel and maybe even a 1/7" in an M4 configuration BUT..What's good? I went back to Brownell's and found a Daniel Defense hammer forged barrel that looked good but they're out of stock. I looked for a Rock River anything and didn't find anything either. I really want to try a chrome lined barrel for longevity otherwise I might look at the stainless 1/8" Wylde chamber barrel. So, what's out there and where do I find a good price?? Brownell's has some other brands but I have no experience with them. I'm open for opinions... |

OK, so I've been looking to buy a barrel and like the Daniel Defense barrels BUT Brownell's is out of them and I have ties to Brownell's (if you know what I mean)...
What about the Double Star barrels???? I may have to go with another DPMS but this last one shot out quickly and I want more barrel life!! |
| As others have said, Centurion and Noveske chrome-lined barrels theoretically have the longest barrel life as their chrome lining is twice as thick as the average chrome-lined AR barrel and meets or exceeds the chrome lining thickness specs for the M249 machinegun. |
