You guys that have them....................how long did it take to get it? I've heard some are getting called by UPS? Any truth to this?
any range reports? |
|
Ordered mine March 4th. It arrived March 10th. It looks nice, but was missing the ST-T2 buffer...I will need to call them tomorrow about that. UPS did call me and say someone needed to be home to sign for it.
Note: I live in Florida so it didn't have as far to travel. |

Just got mine this week, I'm looking forward to getting a review written up as soon as I get a little free time. From first inspection, it looks squared away. |

You guys that have them....................how long did it take to get it? I've heard some are getting called by UPS? Any truth to this? any range reports? I cleaned the upper, put it on my Spike's lower and went to the range. I was mainly shooting my standard reload of 26.5gr WW748 with 55gr fmj (shoots "GI" accurate in all my other 5.56 rifles). At about shot #20, the fired case is stuck in chamber with the rim ripped off. Poke empty out with cleaning rod and run a chamber brush into the chamber, followed up with clean patches. Next fired round sticks in chamber. Then next fired round sticks in chamber. A couple of rounds extract OK, then 2 more fired rounds stick in chamber. In each case, the rim where the extractor was has been ripped off from trying to extract the empty. Then 134 more rounds are fired with no sticking, and I then went home. All the fired brass rounds show marks from the chamber. No chamber marks show on the 20 steel cases (Golden Tiger) that I fired. Note: steel cases were not fired until around round #50. When home and cleaning the upper, no gross amount of gunk/residue is seen in the chamber, just some minor firing residue. Compare the chamber to another chrome plate barrel I have...in the Spike's chamber, the circular reaming marks are much more evident than in my other barrel. My question: Do CHAMBERS sometimes need a breaking in? My next time out, I will have a variety of factory and GI ammo with me. If failures to extract continue, I will ask Spike's to check it out...maybe the chamber needs polishing of some sort. As far as accuracy, I was sighting it in at 50yd with a 4MOA Aimpoint red dot for use against coyotes (we have goats). At 50yd, off a rest, groups were 1 - 1 1/2 inches...about what I expected from my 55gr fmj reloads. A 5 shot group of my coyote load (55gr Nosler BT) at 50yd gave a 1 inch group. My other 5.56 rifles are heavier than this setup, but I wanted this rifle to be light and thus handier with its collapsing stock. I found this rifle to be more sensitive as far as holding it went. In other words, my holding needed to be consistent in order for the point of impact and group size to remain consistent. Best was when I held onto the front hand guard and pulled the rifle back snug into my shoulder. Worst was when I didn't touch the front end at all and simply rested it on the front sand bag. |
| Ordered mine last Tuesday and received it yesterday. Standard automated phone call from UPS too. I'm very pleased with the way it looks, and I'm excited to shoot it as this is my first build. Also their customer support was excellent, very friendly and helpful and I definitely plan on more purchases from them. |

What a great job. Man I appreciate that! Hey Stick, what ammo would you recommend me running through this when it comes in. Also, is there any truth to the "break in" period? Thanks! I would go shoot the life out of it. The only thing I would do is clean and lube it before you went shooting. |

I was the one that had 4 failures to extract the fired brass cases from the chamber that happened between rds 20 and 30 the first time out. I had wondered if a chamber needs a break in period. Don't know what happened to cause the failures to extract, but have had no further failures. I have now fired 349 rds with no failures using all sorts of reloads, military, factory brass and factory steel and zinc plated rounds. Rounds fired included fmj, hp, and soft point. The chamber was cleaned after each shooting session. I also used a variety of old and new mags. I now have every confidence in my upper and keep it ready to go against the local coyotes. |
