I'm considering switching out mt Midwest carbine length free float rail on my Stag upper with a DD Omega 12" rail.  I recently became a believer in the VFG waaay far forward school, and I would like to mount  my secondary wep light in front of the VFG.  Weight difference between the two is app. 7 oz, and I have a flip-up front sight. Is the weight gain significant, and will it work with the gas block mounted front flip up?  Thanks guys...

While 7oz is noticeable it's not drastic. The Omega is a great rail and the lightest FF. Considering you want a longer rail, I don't think it's a bad deal.

You won't be able to use a railed gas block with a carbine unless you use the DD 12.0FSP, which can be had for a great price. A front sight made to be mounted on the gas block will be too high to mount on a rail.

Thanks! I am currently using a "GGG-1297 GG&G Tactical Modular Bolt On Flip Up Front Sight Gas Block", which makes the flip up an integral part of the FSB gas block. I think it is GTG, will let y'all know the outcome.  Grateful that we have a place where questions can be asked and given solid, real world answers!

With that type of gas block you definitely need the DD Omega FSP. No standard rail beyond 7", carbine length, will work with that FSB/folding front sight.

Post some pics when you get the new parts installed!
