I recently picked up a stripped A2 upper receiver that I would like to roughly ID. It has a black (not gray) finish, keyhole forge mark and looks like dry film lube inside. I know there is no way to tell the exact manufacturer with no more info then this, but I was just looking for a list of which manufacturers this could be from. TIA

What is this list? Everyone knows that parts assemblers use more than one of the raw forgings from the various foundries. Your list is not conclusive.

There is no way to determine who machined & finished your upper. Other than you already know who put out the raw forging.

I know that it cannot be determined who machined and finished my upper (as I stated in my original posted which you quoted). I was simply asking if anyone had a list of which manufacturers use 'keyhole' marked forgings and put dry film lube inside. Something like "companies x, y & z use cerro forgings and dry film lube".

I would say maybe CMT/ Bravo Co. I have uppers from them. They use the keyholes and have that spray lube finish in them. This is just a guess.

Whoa Warpig!!!!!!!

I merely provided a list of manufacturers/assemblers that have used the various raw upper receiver forgings based on what I have been able to confirm. It was not intended to be conclusive. I never made any claim as to who machined them. I only offered the OP half of the information he requested as I read the post. No need to get the knickers in a bunch.

Your list is what is was curious about. I was not trying to figure out who machined my upper, just which mfr used these forgings.

Can you post a pic of the dry film lube?

From the uppers with dry film lube in my collection:
Bushmaster - appears gray and very evenly applied.
BCM - almost cream colored. Appears splotchy.
Colt - ranges somewhere between BFI and BCM in the color department. Appears thickly applied.

$.02
YMMV

Can't get a good pic, but it is a splotchy gray color.
