I purchased 2 AR's just about 1 yr ago. Both Bushmasters 14.5 in and 16in.Brand new from dealer WITH CASE, TARGET,SLING,AND MANUAL. The barrel on the 14.5 is stamped BMP NATO 5 .56 1/9.My 16in is stamped BMP.223 REM 1/9. I know the difference between .223 and a 5.56 round.I also know what BMP MEANS. I have known the barrel was stamped like this from the begining, and have shot roughly 2500 rds of Fed xm193 through the 16in without a hitch awesome groups 200 yrds cycles flawlessly. The lower receiver is marked .223 5.56,I called Bushmaster tech line and explained how Bushmaster states that all the barrels will accept 5.56,but my barrel is not stamped 5.56.just the receiver. He explained that they had a runover of barrels and mine is a WYLDE chamber which is a hair tighter than 5.56,but a hair loose to .223. I am good to go with 5.56. I may be letting my OCD GET TO ME ,BUT I am a little put off that it is not stamped on the barrel 5.56mm instead .223 rem. There website does not mention this at all about the WYLDE chamber, just that all bushmaster barrels will accept 5.56,Like mentioned earlier I shot 2500 rds of the FED XM193 WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS no blown primers ,no fail to extract or cycle,or no misfires. My 16in is not a competion model,it is chromed lined ,which it should be. Anyone ever hear of this from Bushmaster ,the barrel not being stamped 5.56 nato? When I purchased both AR's they just came in brand new so scratch that theory.Keith |

Welcome to the new DPMS/Bushmaster. I bought a DPMS bull barrel that was listed under 5.56 on the web site but turns out to be .223. They offered to re-chamber it but said I would loose accuracy. No thanks. The same company, Cerebus, now owns DPMS and Busmaster. You can expect DPMS quality. |

Thanks for all the comebacks, for the one reply, the quality of both my Bushmasters are excellent. The bolt carrier is properly staked 4150 steel etc. I have tried all different ammuniton before I settled on the FED XM193. All ammo fed and cycled and no misfires at all. So before I settled on the FED,I HAVE 500 plus RDS all 5.56mm except for Remington before the 2500 FED(.REM,PRVI,ARMSCOR,Fiocci NO WOLF). I called Bushmaster again today, and asked shouldnt it be marked Wylde on the barrel ,the reply was not necessarily. I also asked why wasn't it reamed a 5.56mm. The reply was all exports can not have 5.56mm nato marked on the barrel,I am guessing civilian. So the overun story guess pans out,it was intended for export, but stayed in the states.
