I'm trying to fine-tune a Precision Recce build.

Here's what I've got so far:
- Noveske 16" Recce Upper w/ Troy BUIS
- Noveske Stripped Lower
- Nightforce 2.5-10x24 Mil-Dot w/ ZeroStop MRAD

What stock would you choose for the setup? I ran this setup with an VLTOR Modstock (not the EMOD) and it was front-heavy with the barrel profile and optics. In addition, the stock didn't feel... "solid." I'm wanting to make this an inter-rim super-accurate SPR build while still being able to do things, like run carbine courses with it. I'd prefer to go with precision over maneuverability/versatility.

I love the look of the Magpul UBR, but the proprietary tube is a the only thing reserving me from doing so. I know it simply screws in and out and I can keep a mil-spec tube on-hand, but it's a turn-off nonetheless. The ACS is my next pick, but (to me anyways) it looks more like an extended CTR stock than the solid arrangement of the UBR. Again, the UBR just looks and feels solid.

Which one would you go with and why? The UBR? The ACS? Or other?

Thanks for your time and help! =)

Go with the PRS, I just got done with my first build and its really nice. Just my 2 cents

The size, shape, and function of the PRS don't appeal to me. I'd consider it on a .308 or 20/24" AR, but on my 16", it'd be too long for me.

My 18" SPR-ish has a UBR because it balances out the forward weight better than the others in your list.  My 2.5-10 Bushnell 4200 is not as chunky as your scope, though.  The rifle is still forward weighted, but I find this this helps me keep the rifle on target.

If I did not go this route, I would have had the E-MOD on this lower.

Those are my two choices.

My UBR is a rock. For a 16" setup I would go with it. While the PRS is also a fantastic stock, this setup might not benefit from it's strengths.

Yes. All of Noveske's BUIS are Noveske-branded Troy BUIS.

On a side note, If you're looking for an upper receiver, I have a nearly-new 16" stainless recon I'm selling cheap on the EE.

Stock choice involves a lot of personal preference.  The UBR gives me the absolute best cheek weld of any adjustable stock on the market.

The UBR does not use a proprietary tube.  So that solves your only concern.  It is the same as a milspec carbine tube internally and the receiver extension is an entry length fixed tube, meaining NOT proprietary.

Sweet! Thanks.

One last question: in some of Stickman's UBR photos, the receiver extension appeared to have a painted, glossy finish compared to the anodized mil-spec finish found on virtually every other extension. I'm assuming that was because he was using a pre-production T&E model. Is the production-model UBR receiver extension indeed a matte black anodized finish? Or is it still glossy?

Im partial to UBRs but every stock you listed is excellent in its own right

Mine is matte.

I have a couple Noveske N4 RECCE's.  The I have a UBR on one (Trijicon ACOG TA11) and a Vltor EMOD on the other (Aimpoint Comp M4).  A UBR or ACS would work well on the set up you are describing.

But isn't it proprietary because it's like no other buffer tube?  It can't be used with ANY other stock and NO other stock can be used with it.  That's pretty much as proprietary as you are going to get- oh yeah, and the fact that you can only get that tube with the stock as a kit and not separate.

I have and like both, but if you're trying to balance out a heavy front end weapon I'd go with the UBR.

Did you read my post?  Its an entry fixed tube as sold for entry fixed stocks.  RRA sells tube for $20.  I thought I was pretty clear.

Absolutely positively nothing.

Just wondering why they've replaced the Noveske flip-up sight with a Troy.

DevL- gotcha.  Forgot about those tiny RRA stocks that they sold awhile back.

They've always been Troy; they're just branded with Noveske's logo. Look underneath the sight and you'll see Troy's branding and p/n.

Alright Mr. Trident - post just ONE MORE picture of that rifle and I'm going to have to come and visit you personally and take it off your hands.

The combination of the UBR and the MRP with the Nightforce make that thing just plain sexy. Mine will be very similar, only with Noveske rails instead of the MRP and a 2.5-10x24 (instead of your x32) NXS.

Is the entire upper a LMT-built MRP? Or just the upper-receiver/forearm? I'd love to get a stripped MRP and build it out with a Noveske barrel.

Thanks pal i thought it was pretty close to the specs you were gunning for.  Yeah its a upper complete w. lmt mrp barrel.  Their barrels use the proprietary specs to allow them to quick change w. the 2 screws.  You will absolutely love the build you have listed above imho.

I love my ACS on my 14.5 M4gery, though the UBR will provide a better counter weight to a longer, heavier profile barrel and all the fun things that you will try and attach to your quad rail.

If I had one I would have.... Must have been on vacation the last time the "who makes noveske's buis for them?" thread came up.

this is good news though :D just two more months and ill have enough moolah  for an upper!
