And I bought a Miculek to swap it with... That sucker is on threre TIGHT!!!! I've removed lugnuts put on with an impact wrench that were not on that tight... |

Thanks for the reply... Anyhthing you can do (safely) if you don't have the upper receiver block??? You know how it is when you get something new and want to put it on right away... I totally understand. Can you describe what you have tried thus far? I have had success with the following: Make sure rifle is unloaded Take a junk mag thats unloaded and place it in well Lay down a cloth on the bench and put the rifle down so that the mag is towards you and the barrel is to the right Place the wrench on the flats properly, and with your left hand push down on the receiver and turn the wrench with the other hand firmly and slowly... |

Almost that exact process, minus the Mag in the well and a wrech that fits properly.. Here at the house I do not have any decent wrenches... All I have is a few sets of Pliers, channel locks, vise grips and a few sizes crescent wrenches... I was putting a decent amount of pressure on the stock part, but I was afraid or tweaking the barrel outta line or something... Most all of my tools are geared toward electricity or electronics or some type of wiring (Car Stereo, home audio, CATV, Network Lan Cables, etc...) At my last house, rented from relatives, we had every tool known too man in the Garage... Here, not so much... I wait till I need a tool then try to buy it if I can justify/afford it... After this, I guess I will be getting a set of open end / box end wrenches and a receiver block... I was just looking at those right before I ordered the Muzzle Brake... |

Well, frankly, you aren't going to hurt the barrel, it is made out of steel, and it is connected to the upper receiver by a barrel nut that is torqued to somewhere between 35 and 70 PSI.....
Also the gas tube won't allow it to turn.... The only thing that could happen if you cranked on it REALLY the wrong way would be flexing your upper receiver since it is made out of aluminum... Try this.... Do what I said above, with a mag in the magwell.... and have a 2nd person (wife, son, neighbor, you pick :) hold down firmly on the receiver and take your crescent wrench and put it on the flats, and then wiggle it up and down and tighten the wrench at the same time to where it really tightens up against the flats.... and then firmly and slowly turn it right way.... (By wiggling it up and down and tightening it you are taking the slop out of the jaws so it fits better, if you do this right the crescent wrench should be hard to take off without loosening it) Its really not rocket surgery, and you aren't going to break or damage anything unless you REALLY screw up and put hundreds of pounds of force in to it.... The AR was built as a military rifle, so its not as fragile as you might think.... |
