So I asked the question in a couple threads, but got no love, so I figured I'd just start a thread of my own.

I just bought a YHM Lightweight FF quad rail for my 16" Bushmaster (thanks for the guidance ArmedSuspect).

I didn't buy the $30 Barrel/ Jam nut wrench because they were out of stock.

I already know it will fit past my stock gas block. Can I install this thing with only "standard" tools?

Thanks all for your time.

A strap wrench or a flat screwdriver and a hammer, but the proper wrench is better.

I put mine on without the YHM tool.  Use a standard tool for installing the barrel nut, and then a wide straight screwdriver or cold chisel for the lock nut.  (not a wood chisel)  You can just see a little shiney metal on mine where the chisel was, but no deformation of the material.

Thanks again everyone for the help.

When that thing gets here in the mail, I'm gonna hack it on with a screwdriver!

I'll be blaming y'all if it gets fucked up.

No way I'd do this without the DPMS tool and the WYM tool.  You might either under torque or F somethin' up without one.

Can you at least borrow someone's?

You're missing what we did here.

Use the DPMS tool to install the barrel nut and torque it into place. Screw the handguard into place. I then added the two anti-rotate screws. Finish off by tightening the jam nut up against the back of the handguard and I used a hollow ground screwdriver bit and a ball peen hammer to tap the jam nut tighter. As in tap...tap...tap. Not WHANG...WHANG...WHANG...!

So far it's held together nice and tight.

I'll also add that I lock tighted the jam nut and anti rotation screws and then marked all the tightened parts with a permanent marker witness line.  If you don't have a way to measure the torque and a spec to torque to the tool isn't going to help you.  You just gotta have a feeling of what's "tight enough"   Lock tight is your friend for anything that screws together.

This... mine hasn't moved either.
