a seller at a gun show who also posts on gunbroker has BCGs that he claims are made by FN.  http://v4.beta.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=140757062
i'm not inclined to believe him because at the show he has several complete uppers that he claimed were LMTs that were completely unmarked. the only thing there that i saw that was legit was stag uppers which he was selling for almost $100 more than the "LMTs". defies conventional logic, i know.

to avoid messes like this, (other than buying from an individual on GB), is there a way to identify bolts and carriers?

Well he's full of it in this auction:  http://v4.beta.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=140757089

And this one:  http://v4.beta.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=140757066

ETA:  That carrier is a semi-auto carrier.  I don't think FN makes a SA carrier.

Made by "FN" is a catch all phrase for we don't know who the fuck made it.

this guy is probably buying blackthorne uppers, putting LMT inspection tags on them, and selling them on GB. what a farce!

All FN bolts that I have seen were marked with a "F" as in MPF or FMP and some may have the F underlined.  "Most" of the FN carriers I have seen were maked with a simple "F" that was parkerized with the rest of the carrier.  Some carriers that have come from factory new weapons did not have any marking at all..........or maby the F was just way too light to be seen after the park was done.

His ad states "THIS UPPER WAS FINISHED BY LMT" and the inspection tag looks just like the one on the upper I purchased from M & A who states their uppers are assembled by LMT.

I would guess it is a M & A upper assembled by LMT.

ETA: same upper from M & A runs $375 ish IIRC and his auction is starting at $580
