I'm looking at building an SPR, preferably a Mk12 Mod 1.

I've researched the parts required/needed, and the most comprehensive list I found was at Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy_Mark_12_Mod_X_Special_Purpose_Rifle ). As with all things Wikipedia, anything can be edited by anyone, so I'm not completely sure if that's an accurate breakdown of the gun. If it isn't correct, feel free to jump in and let me know.

Like I said, I'm looking at building an SPR Mk12 Mod 1, but I have no idea where to start or where I can get each of the parts needed (knowing what to get is one thing, finding it is another). Has anyone else here built an SPR? If so, any help would be appreciated.

Conversely, is there a manufacturer that builds a mil-spec SPR as a complete package?

Thanks and regards...

Read this EPIC thread spanning years, it aint hard to build an EXACT clone if you have the money to burn.  Look to spend $3K for just the rifle.

I'm poor.  I'm building a "tribute band" version of the SPR.  Compass Lake Engineering, White Oak Armament, Rainier Arms all have decently priced SPR barrels.  Krieger and Noveske have the spendy SPR barrels.

Centurion is run by a SEAL.  EXACT replicas. EXACT same barrels straight from the source.

ADCO is a big SPR fan.  He makes a practical clone, for way cheaper.

DPMS also has their own version/interpretation:  the Panther  Mark 12.

This is the same rifle that was put together for GPS Sniper School's SPR rifles, which are available for rent in their classes.

BTW I'm also looking at doing a SPR, but may freelance it around the basic requirements instead of trying to mimic an actual mil spec model.

No thanks.

Clamp on gas block/sight?  CAA pistol grip? Off brand rail with Oval profile?

$1,500 for a complete rifle isn't a bad deal, ADCO's clone is superior, and only slightly more expensive

THE SPR REPRESENTS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF WHAT CAN BE DONE IN SHORT ORDER WITH "COMMERCIAL OFF THE SHELF" (COTS) TECHNOLOGY TO PUT AN EFFECTIVE WEAPON IN THE HANDS OF A SPECIAL OPS SHOOTER IN COMPARATIVELY SHORT ORDER. THE SPR USED THE BEST COMPONENTS THAT WERE AVAILABLE AT THE TIME.

BUT, IT'S NOW 2009. OTHER THAN THE PRI GAS BUSTER CHARGING HANDLE, EVERY SINGLE COMPONENT USED IN THE ORIGINAL SPR MK 12 MOD 0 AND MK 12 MOD 1 CAN BE MATCHED - OR EVEN IMPROVED UPON.

SO WHAT WOULD AN "SPR MK 12 MOD 2" LOOK LIKE?

IT MIGHT NOT EVEN HAVE AN 18" BARREL:

GOOD SHOOTING,
