Does anyone have a pic of a slipover flash hider, such as this one on their guns?  Is there any purpose other than making the barrel appear shorter?

That one is actually designed to bring an 11.5" barrel to the minimum 16"

And they do serve a purpose. They redirect burning gases, protect your eyes from the flash and can help with recoil.

Here's a 16" barrel with a 5.5" Bushmaster slipover hider installed.  It gives the appearance of a shorter barrel.

Another angle.

These flashiders will also add weight to the muzzle end of the barrel.

They will not allow you to mount a bayonet on a 16" barrel because the diameter of the flashider is greater than the diameter of the bayonet mounting ring.HTH
