I bought a new AR at a gun show the other day.  They said it was an LRB.  I looked into it and LRB only makes lowers (M15SA) and flat-top uppers.  I have an upper with the undetachable handle.  Since LRB doesn't make my upper, I looked all over the upper for any marking.  I checked all the posts with ID marks, and i definately have nothing.  I don't even have the caliber marking on the barrel.  Which brings me to my question...

1.  I brought it to a gun smith, because I want to check if i have a chamber that can handle 5.56 along with .223 without blowing the insides up.  What is the process when they say they are going to take a chamber cast?  Do they actually make a cast (like plaster mold) of the inside?

2.  I saw on a post that bushmaster does not mark their barrels if it is not chrome lined.  Is this the reason my whole upper might not be marked?  Is there any other reason my entire upper might not be marked?  My guess is that it might be forged by some no name place that normally sells to a normal company who stamps it with their name when they get it, but it never got to the normal company.

What you're saying is that you bought a pig in a poke, and now you want us to make you feel better about it––––and I'm not sure we can help a whole lot.

First, Bushmaster chrome lines ALL it's barrels, except for stainless steel and their most expensive match types; and marks them all; so the barrel ain't Bushie. Some makers put barrel markings under the handguards. Have you pulled them and looked in that area?

The upper?  Is it an A1 or A2 type? That is, does it just have a flip type aperture, or dr does it have knobs for elevatio and windage adjustment? If it's the first type, with just a flat plate on the side for limited windage change, does the upp reciever hav a case defletor hump just behind the ejection port? And are you sure there are no markings of any sort on the upper reciever, either just under the sight assy (A1 type) or just in front of the sight (A2 type).

In other words,if we have any hope of being helpful, we need more info; and a pic would really help.
