it has a weird A marked on the back of the receiver, but nothing other than that. Shoots straight and everything, but I'd like to know what brand it is (got from a pawn shop.) I'd appreciate any help.

It's not an A. It's actually an A H, standing for Anchor Harvey; which is the forge that made the raw forging. It tells you nothing about who actually made the piece, since Anchor Harvey produces raw forgings for the entire industry
Given that the piece is a "C7" type upper, with the brass deflector and early flip type rear sight, the odds are that it's either a Bushmaster or DSPMS piece. There are one or two other suppliers of this type upper, but the two above are the most common sources for this type. The barrel looks like the 16" featherweight type sold by Bushmaster. What, if any, markings are on it? |
