Has anyone tried this out . Im curious as to if its worth the money to have the piston system rather than the gas impingement system? Any feed back would be appreciated. Im in the middle of building my franken gun so far its pieces together of magpul, smith and wesson, eotech, larue im interested big time in this piston system but want to hear how easy it is to install and how it functions and if its worth the extra bucks thanx

Should be easy to install but from what I read on their site it only works with their provided hand guards, will not work under a rail for example. I'm actually shipping my upper off as soon as it gets here to PWS for their gas piston system. Theirs works with most rails as long as it does not extend past the gas block and looks like it is a much higher quality system. Only thing is that it has to be installed by a certified PWS installer or at least so they say

Can anyone verify if the handguard that comes with this conversion system must be installed or if other handguards are available for use with this? or perhaps it doesnt matter whether you use theres or another suppliers like Daniel Defense or such. Thanx :)

Apparently it will fit under some, used their FAQ

Question / Issue
Will a Gas Piston Retrofit Conversion Kit fit and function on a Bushmaster Modular Carbine considering it has a different handguard?

Answer / Solution
It will not fit under the Modular carbine handguards.

The gas piston system will not fit under most handguards. The Daniel Defense Omega, LWRC, Troy and ARMS SIR 50C are the only handguards that we know of that fit with no modifications.

I would wait at least till next year to see what happens with the gas piston systems, they are really not that good from what I hear and im not just saying bushmaster im saying most of the ones I have used and that friends have are pickie on what gr ammo you use and all that..

The only good reason to have a Piston system in your rifle is if

You use a can or have a full auto AR and a really short barrel..

I am waiting for now.. if anything I will just buy the BushMaster ACR or the LMT gas piston upper once it gets fixed.. the prob with the LMT piston upper is it will not shoot 55gr very well.. if obama does not ban AR's it will be awesome and I will be able to get the full LMT down the road.. but I guess if you have the extra money to spend maby try out a piston system on one of your AR's I really dont think it will hurt. I do hear it adds some recoil but I really didnt notice it but I was not shooting in full auto so that might be why..

I've had a Bushy piston since shortly after their introduction, and have sent close to 2k rounds downrange. No problems or issue with the piston system have arisen. Recoil is *different* than  DI AR: more of a slap vs. push. Accuracy has been indiscernible from other DI AR's.

IMHO the Bushy piston is more a curiosity, not necessarily an improvement given my intents and purposes.
