Looking at getting a new rifle. I have been looking at a CMMG piston AR. It looks like a good rifle, a little on the heavy side for a M4 style rifle though. The question is that I dont know anyone who owns or shoots a rifle from CMMG, so is it a worth while investment? The M16 A2 was once my best friend, will I find a new friend with this one.

I have had bad service from CMMG, and do not like any of the piston conversions. If you want a piston gun, buy an HK416 upper or an LWRC.

I would recommend finding a standard gas operated AR-15.

Can't comment on their piston uppers.  But I had a regular midgas.  The inside of the upper reciever was ridged, like someone forgot to finish machine it.  you could feel it cycling the bcg. None of my other ar's did this.  I did not fire it as it was new.

I sent it back to AIM.  Hopefully they'll refund the price.  Said they would; we'll see.

I've had good uppers from dpms, rra and the best, white oak.

Good luck.

Don't want a piston gun.  I have had a CMMG Midlength Gas upper for about 3 years now.  No problems with it.

I just received one of their carbine uppers today.  The inside of the upper receiver also has the metal on metal scraping sound when working the bolt.  It does sound like someone got in a hurry and forgot to finish smoothing the inside of the upper receiver.  I'll call AIM on Monday and see if I can send this one back also.

Well...I did buy the CMMG M4 type. It has the WASP finnish, seems to function fine so far. I put about a hundred rounds through it yesterday (taking my time) without any issue. When I picked it up it also had a dragging feel when working the bolt, it turned out to be a small bur on the charging handle that was easily fixed. I will post any info on issues with this one. Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it...
