What is the lightest buttstock out there right now when installed on an AR?  My assumption would be that it is either a standard M4-type buttstock or the Magpul CTR.

Same question for handguards.  What is the lightest choice there?  I would guess just the standard plastic ones.

I ask because I'm thinking of doing an AR build for my girlfriend.  She's strong enough to hold up an M1 carbine, but it's too long for her to hold up very well.  I'd like to build her a 14.5" AR (which is 5" or so shorter than the M1) and get it as light as I can, that way it should balance for her a little better.  Thanks.

The earlier CAR style stock will be lighter. My lightest AR is 5 lbs. 15 oz. My M1 weighs in at 5 lbs. 8 oz.

eta: slight correction to weight, was going off memory.

I would be interested to know what your lightweight AR's specs are, I'm thinking about doing a lightweight build and the weight you discribe seems to be very appealing.

Not sure of exact weight but the MOE seems pretty lite, especially if you removed the butt pad.

Cavalry Arms' MKII lower is pretty light as well.
