My local shop has an upper I have been eyeballing. It is a take-off from a Colt M4. Used, but doesn't seem to be in bad condition. It came from the Colt factory as a trade in or something of that nature. It is a flat top w/carry handle, charging handle, complete M16 BCG, and all other bits. As I said, literally a complete M4 upper.
What do you think something like that is worth? What should I look for internally, wear wise? ETA: More info added below. |

I think the LE6920 upper is 1050 or 1100 from Specialized Armament, but I'm too lazy to look. That's a complete upper. Yes, I know, very expensive. Wow. Like I said, this one is used, but I don't know how to judge the barrel wear. I was told it was a police trade-in. It's got some rub-wear on the edges of the exterior, but what should I look for inside to judge it's level of use? I don't care about the outside wear because it is going on my knock-around lower. I guess I'll just look at the lugs and try to see how round they are? |

Make sure (via barrel/receiver markings, 3 places) that it really is a Colt M4 upper. I went back to the store on my way home from school. The barrel looks to be good. The bolt looks very very good. All locking lugs were dead sharp. Didn't show any signs of wear. The barrel is perfect externally and also has all correct markings. The handguards are correct double-heatshield Colt. Carry handle was also Colt. The only part in bad shape was the upper receiver itself which, externally, is pretty rough. They do have a pile of Colt A3 uppers for sale also, so it could be replaced. The A2 hider is also worn on the edges. They want $550 for it. Should I do it? The alternative is wait for an LMT 10.5, but that is $500 w/o BCG/CH/carry-handle. |

Reads like a very good deal to me if it's a legit Colt piece. A low price for a Colt upper (I wouldn't complain) but what are the exact barrel markings? |

Don't hold me to this, but I THINK I recall it being, "C MP 556 1/7." Based on the place selling the item I'm quite confident it is all Colt original parts. I just wasn't sure it was worth it. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for it. I'll post some pics up tomorrow. |
