| Is there a thread that someone can recall with pictures of the various forge markings from uppers? Id like to be able to identify uppers at funshows if its possible. |

I'm not done yet, but this will help:

Forge codes don't mean jack.
A forge will sell uppers to numurous different companies. The upper is then machined by the manufacturer, not the forger. So, theoretically, the same forge could be supplying LMT and Olympic and I don't think that you'll find anybody that agrees that the quality is the same. The only time that you can actually guage quality off of these codes is when the manufacturers code is included. Not many companies do this. Colt used to, but new ones are engraved, which means that they can be faked. Diemaco and Armalite still have codes forged into their uppers. |

I just saw a square forging mark from Delton. Anyone know about this? I don't know whose mark that is, but I have an Oly upper with the square forge mark. ETA - Might be these guys. |

Forge codes don't mean jack. perhaps, but lack of them is not a good sign. And it's always nice to know the origin of the forging, imo. I agree, that lack of a forge mark on an upper does make one go Hmmmmm... I have: Two LMT uppers with no forge mark whatsoever. - 16" Standard Carbine LMT marked on left side. - 16" Stainless Steel Fluted Mid Weight Middy unmarked. One BCM Upper with the square (box) forge mark. At least one Colt with the square (box) forge mark on the removable carry handle. I kid you not! eta: Stainless Steel on the LMT. |
