Who makes the best mid length upper receiver?

[#1]
Noveske.

Bravo Company is a good choice.

What makes them so expensive?

No complaints about CMMG.  You get 1/7 twist, chrome bore/chamber, parked under FSB. M4 feed ramps.  All for a good price.

I love my CMMG middy..:) Quality stuff, good price.

I agree that Noveske and Bravo Company are the best out there.  However, my Rock River lightweight middy sure is one sweet little unit and I got it for $450 including bolt carrier and charging handle.

I vote for Rock River if you want a 1/9 twist and CMMG if you want a 1/7 twist.

If you happen to want 1/8 twist, CMMG makes a real sweet 18" mid-length upper.

You can pre-order one from AIM provided you get through on the phone...

This.  My spidey senses kicked in around noon today and checked my email...  HOLY SHIT!! BCM MIDDY'S IN STOCK!!!  Well, got in while the gittin was good, I was lucky.  Sold out in less than an hour, prolly less.  Wait for 'em, and good things will come if you do.

Oh, yeah... I read up on uppers before pulling the trigger on this one... no regrets, worth the cash.

CMMG (mid-range)

They stay within the mil-spec for the most part...no shortcuts.

Also, they have very well made barrels...specifically the SS models.

I do not know about the best, since I have not tried them all. That being said, I purchased a RRA mid length and with handloads (24 grains H335/60 grain Vmax, 2.25oal) it will consistantly shoot into the .4s and .5s with a .2 roughly every half dozen groups or so.  Sub .5 moa meets my needs.

T-Marked Upper Receivers
USGI 1/7 Twist Rates
USGI 5.56 NATO Chambers
Mil-Spec 11595E - Barrel Steel (CMV)

MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspected) Barrels

M&A Parts, 1 MOA, $320 W/O bolt & carrier! My Armalite shoots the same for a heftier price.

Does anyone other than CMMG offer a midlength with the following:

1/7 twist
14.5" with perm Phantom
lightweight barrel

That's what I'm looking for, and so far CMMG is all I'm seeing. Which is just fine, I have no problem with them, just wondering if there's anything else out there.

Who makes the BEST middie?

Good way to start a fight....:)

I pretty much owned them all from the major builders here

I like Wes' builds at MSTN (Noveske) and Paul's at Bravo Company (BCM brand)

I am also partial to Brett's work at PK Firearms (Sabre)

BCM for best bang for your $.  I have one and it's great.

If you want to spend more then Noveske or LMT would be your choices.

CMMG makes them too and many here like their Mid uppers.

I suggest you read the specs from each Mfg's website and correspond with them if you need additional info about their product.  BTW, CMMG mfg's their own barrels, and BCM will not disclose who sources their barrels.

Read the posts in this board going back at least a couple of months.  Questions like this get asked on a regular basis and the responses can be extremely varied to say the least.

Good luck on your research and your AR build.

Seriously, it wasn't me.  I did order one yesterday at about 7:00pm, but there were still more left when I was done.  I also picked up a Bushmaster 14.5" upper for $505 complete at the same time.

CMMG does not make their own barrels! They don't make there own uppers, lowers, triggers, hammers, bolts, carriers or anything else they claim they make at their "factory'.! I don't care what CMMG told you at a gun show. According to them they must mine the ore to produce the metal.
Actually CMMG has refused to disclose their barrel manufacturers in recent threads. Claiming it is a insider secret that they don't want their competitors finding out CMMG's sources. So CMMG has admitted they admitted they don't make their own barrels. WOW, they finally told the truth about something. Well, at least this month.
