Which do you think is the best and why?

Tango Down for me.  They offer a lot of protection, won't come off easily and I like the way they feel and look the best.  My second pick would be KAC.

Tango Down in my book. As my fiance would say "I like em hard!"

didn't tango down come out with a new rail panel?  I swear its tango down.  I see em in gun magazines. they look like Tango Down but are more smooth, rather rounded but textured for grip. Know what I'm talking about?

I have the KAC covers that came with my rails, but I really prefer the ladder covers.  Wish they were cheaper though so I could them to fit each configuration of light and VFG..

Only KAC. Wish they had more colours, but i guess thats what Krylon is for. Before I would of said TD but you can find kac for much better prices then on msot retail shops on EE.  I'll probably never buy anyhting but kac.

TD are too think KAC rails covers arre thinner and feel better.

KAC - rock solid and low profile.

The Magpul XTMs look good though, and I'd like to try 'em out at some point.

i like my ladder rails.  Feels pretty good, and I like the way they look with the staggered colors.

I use a mix of KAC covers and Magpul ladders.

They are my favorites.

Tango Down...they lock up on anything

I like the KAC covers despite the price. They look the best and make for a comfortable grip all around.

I have XTs, but they are too bulky for my taste and I will likely be switching to ladders...

I tend to use ladders, can't get more low profile than that.

KAC

I had KAC covers but got annoyed when they got loose. aside from that they were great.

i replaced the KAC's with the XTM panels which are cheaper, lockup tighter, are easily customized to whats on your rail, and as low profile as the KAC.

I was afraid mine wouldn't lockup due to bad luck with clone versions when i use to play airsoft when i was younger, but they lock up great on my stag.

I only run KAC's.

I use TD, KAC, XTM and Magpul ladder covers, so far I like the XTM better because they fit tight but I'm not sure yet how durable they are until I use them for several years.

I only use my Magpul ladder covers to cover small exposed rails that are not covered by my other rail panels.

KAC   the ladders let tooo much heat out around the rail on my guns. it gets too hot!!   the rail gets too warm to hold on to or touch if you shoot alot. and the rubber ladders stink when the rail heats up from the barrel and they start to  go melty

I use the older magpul ones, i really like them, and I also like KAC a lot.  Fin nice and snug, look great, and you can pick then up pretty cheap sometimes on the EE or gunshows...

What are those knew rail covers I see in magazines that look like Tango Down ones but more rounded, with a rough texture.  anyone know what I'm talking about?

KAC (gives an OEM look)

KAC - followed closely by XTM panels...

The TangoDown are nice too but add a bit too much bulk to the fore-end...

Magpul ladder rail covers for me

Any  pics of KAC vs ladder vs XTM?  I am looking for a good picture of the lower (ie "tighter") profile.  Got a MP15x with the SW covers and they are too thick.

Are ladder covers actually comfortable during shooting?

I liked the ladder covers but when I came across the XTM panel I switched. They add some diameter to the rail surface but I use a VFG so it does not really bother me. These are on my LWRC.

Sir James - Thanks for the picture! is that the ladder guard or the XMT? Just out of curiosity - why did you like the XMT over the ladder guard?  Comfort?

They are the XTM, I like them as they provide more protection for the rail surface. They are super easy to install, they just snap together. Removal is not that difficult either just push in and pry up and they come right off. As for long term durability we will see as I have only used them for a couple of months. I have them on two of my rifles.

Ladder covers.  The others all add too much width / diameter to the handguard.  The ladders are nice as they don't add any bulk, but keep the edges of the rails from snagging on things.

Do the Magpul XTM panels have any movement at all once they are in place? Even the slightest wiggle??

No.  Sometimes KAC has the slightest wiggle (can be slid fore and aft like .1mm or so), sometimes not.  XTMs NEVER have wiggle.

Mine will not budge, at all. The only real downside to them is getting them off in a hurry, or it can be tedious if you like to switch things around a lot if that is a concern, for you. Otherwise, I won't go back to any of the others having used these.

That sold me then.  I'll get the XTMs for sure now.

KAC. I don't care of they have "wiggle." They aren't coming off unless I depress the metal clip.

I've the KAC panels, but didn't like how they would slide back and forth on a Troy rail. I have since sold those off in favor of the older Magpul panels. These seem to work fairly well. I'm curious how'll they stand up in more extreme conditions.

Currently I run the Magpul xt panels. they dont wiggle in the slightest. as for coming off, it would take quite a bit of pressure to get those suckers off. I can barley get off a whole uncut panel as is.
