| Who makes a better bolt? Fulton is carpenter steel,BCM is shoot peened and mp tested. The one that came with my delton kit has tool marks on the face of the bolt and I want to replace it. |
I have to agree...I have a high count upper that was rebarreled...stuck a BCM bolt into my 10K+ round Young Nat'l Match carrier...with the new barrel...750+ rounds later...she is still running like a top.... The "old" BCM high count bolt...It looked like it was brand new...except for the carbon in the space under the extractor...I swaped out to a new bolt because for $60, it was "cheap" insurance.... |
Colt and FN maybe? As to the OP question: BCM |

Carpenter 158 is an Chromium Nickle(UNS type 51606)alloy tool steel from Carpenter Technologies corp. Shot peening is a method of stress relieving metals and often times is done after final machining. Magnetic Particle (A.K.A. Magnaflux) testing is done to check iron or steel parts for surface cracks. it can be done as often as you like , before or after a part has been placed into service. Want to to MP test your bolt every X number of rounds? go ahead it wont hurt it a bit. Most reputable engine builders or aviation prop and rotor shops should be able to perform this service for a nominal fee. Want to know more? ask your local engine shop or metalurgist about it . hope this sheds a little light. |
