| I want to get a rail for my stag model 1. After reading reviews and searching the site I narrowed it down to a Daniel Defense rail. I am a little confused as to the difference between their Omega Rail and their M4 rail. I know that with the Omega rail you need to make not modification to the gun. What would you have to modify on the gun to put on the M4 rail. Is their big quality difference in the 2? Is one better then the other? |
You can install the Omega without any AR specific tools. You need a flat head screw driver and the little allen wrench that DD includes. The M4 requires a good hammer and punch to knock the pins out of the FSB, a vise, upper receiver block, and barrel wrench to remove the barrel nut. I can install an Omega in about 10 minutes while sitting at my shop counter and bsing with customers. The M4 takes about the same time, but I am focused on that job in the workshop on the back of my shop. If you do not have the tools and do not plan on getting the tools, the Omega is a better deal. |
With Daniel Defense, I would choose between the Lite rail and Omega rail series. Below are guides that have been written up that walk the reader through the installation process. There are a pretty good amount of pictures, and I tried to make it so that viewing the pictures was enough to get a good idea how to install the rails. Daniel Defense Lite Rail Installation Guide Daniel Defense OMEGA Rail Installation Guide As of right now, I do not have a DD M4 rail installation guide written up, but I feel that the Lite rail series is easier to install, and is an overall better rail. |
I don't think the M4 rail is better, though its one piece tube and welded construction makes it a very solid rail. The Lite rail is the best aside from the DD RIS II rails (IMHO). The Omega is in a class of its own. As far as mounting optics on a rail, any FF rail will keep the optic in place without movement. |
