I know that non-chrome lined barrels are preferred for match accuracy.  A also know chrome lined barrels reduce the incidence of rusting and pitting.  My question is:  Since I clean the rifle habitually ever time I shoot, is a chromed barrel necessary?  Its only an additional $45, but that $45 can go towards mags.  This is for a mid-length A2 upper that will not be part of any competition.

Thanks.

Spend the $45 and get the chrome lined barrel.  When you shoot a high rate of fire ,ie. 30 rnds in 10-15 sec. that heats up the barrel tremendously and wears the barrel at a much higher rate, and when you do that over and over, a non chrome lined barrel will last about 2,000 rnds.  If this is going to be a bench rest gun and you slow fire and clean after every 5-10 rounds, then non CL will work for you.

Not to get off subject here, 2000rds life of barrel? Seems awful low to me, I have 3 chrome moly that all have waaaay over that amount 3-5M per and still drive tacks. Not using hot handloads or rapid fire particularly. Is the chrome that much of an advantage over the life barrel or is it just how it's used...I assume the chrome would last longer but how much generally?

How about the chrome bolt and carrier vs. standard?

All major brands of bolt carriers are chrome lined inside where they are suppose to be.  The fad of getting fully chromed bolts and bolt carriers is new and because some like "bling" and glitter and say that it is somehow easier to clean.............any reason will do if that is what you want.
Bottom line is that if you want a chrome BC looking at you whenever you have the dust cover open, then get one otherwise a standard BC will do your job very well.

Thanks.  That'll at least save me $55.  Since I'm getting a Del-Ton kit minus the lower parts, a chrome barrel will only $15 more.

A chromed chamber will be slicker and help prevent stuck cases/torn case rims.
