| Are there any major advantages (besides ease of cleaning) to getting a chromed bolt? If I get one, who makes the best ones? |
| My understanding is that it's a good thing to get the bolt chromed, but that you don't necessarily want a chromed BCG (have seen this recommendation in a couple of places, including the Maryland AR15 shooters advice pages). Is that true, and if so, why is that the case? If it's good to chrome the bolt, why isn't it also good to chrome the BCG? |

This a myth that won't DIE! Anyone who says that hard chromed carriers will: Wear out your upper receiver Crack Chip and flake In general lead to the downfall of everything good Doesn't have a DAMN CLUE about hard chrome. The only reason I would not purchase a hard chrome carrier is because of a better plating, Ion Bond. It's harder and black in color. PursuitSS |
| OK, so if I got (for example) a Young's BCG, which says at MSTN that you can get it with either "Matte SS" or "Diamond Black" (where the black costs $34 extra), is that diamond black a different and improved type of finish? Is that similar to the ion bond finish you're talking about? |
| Diamnond Black and Ion Bond are the same thing. The same finish, applied by the same company. Its actually called Ion Bond but MSTN was calling it Diamond Black as they were offering it for a while and did not want anyone to know where they were getting it done or what it was before Denny at Global Tactical started to offer it. |
how much did that run? i am looking for an extractor to replace thelarge lip one on my carbon 15 which i think is leading to fte. |
