| how easy is it to change from a hand guard to a rail? i am thinking about doing it myself but i would like to get some feedback before buying the rail and taking apart my rifle. the lower receiver stuff i'm pretty comfortable with since my buddy and i each assembled one together but i just bought an upper already assembled so im not sure how all of the parts connect/disconnect etc. |

2 options, drop in railed handguards, which install like the normal plastic ones, or a free-floated railed handguard, which there are a few different installations of. Daniel Defense (Omega), Samson, & Troy all make a bolt-on free float handguard, which doesn't require much wrenching on the actual upper, depending on which one you pick. The DD is the fastest install of a free float out there, at somewhere around 5 minutes to install. they currently only make a carbine length handguard, and are due to release a midlength version soon. Then you have ones like LaRue, Knights, and Daniel Defense (Lite), etc. which require special tools and disassembly of the upper. let us know what model you're looking at, and we can better gauge how much effort it will be to install. |
then in that case, my #1 recommendation would be the Daniel Defense Omega 7.0 it bolts on in very short order, no wrenching on the rifle, no cutting of the delta ring, nada. They can be found at our site sponsors for around $240 I believe. |
