Newbie has more questions..... I would like to get some quad rails down the road for my new midlength upper. I am looking to keep it as lightweight and inexpensive as possible. What are my options for quad rails for a midlength??? The only accessories I would use it for is a front vertical grip and maybe a flashlight every now and again. I really only need a rail on the bottom of the handguard. Do they have any type of plastic handguards with just a single rail on the bottom?? I know I have seen them for carbine length but not midlength. Thanks for any help, -Derek |
| I dont know about a mid-length rail to bolt on the bottom but you could always get a rifle length and just cut it down. I think Daniel Defense makes a 2 piece railed handguard but i dont know of any others. I just ended up shelling out the cash for a DD 9.0 free float rail, Larue makes a nice 9.0 rail as well. |
| How does $8 for a short rail or $11 for a long rail to attach to your std handguard sound? Take a look here. |

YHM and MI make the best rails for the money, and those would be my 1st choices if cash is a factor they do make add on single rails for std HGs...MI would be my choice, KAC is another personally, if this is a serious use gun, i'd suggest you opt for the quad rails--the add on rails can come loose due to hard use, irregardless, locktite your mounting screws |

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the info. I placed an order for a single bottom rail and we will see how that works out. If I don't like it then I have been eyeballing the YHM lightweight quad rail. It seems like a nice setup for $100. What exactly does free floating the barrel mean?? Does it really improve accuracy?? If anyone has pictures of YHM lightweight quad rail installed please post them. Thanks again for the help, -Derek |
Free floating means that nothing is touching the barrel except for the barrel nut that holds it to the upper. IMO you wont notice a diffrence in accuracy unless your shooting match ammo or your own loads. I know i cant tell any diffrence with my M193. The only reason i went free float is because i got a good deal on my DD 9.0 + i knew i wouldnt want to swap it out for something else in the future cause its the shit
