Are AR 15 uppers, lowers and handguards tough enough to be powder coated?

If not, what other ways can you customize the colors?

any metal part can be powder coated.it just has to be able to withstand a 400 degree bake.it would be a tough finish but you could have issues with the powder getting into holes it shouldn't and then have to clean it out.

There are low temperature cure powder coats, which you would absolutely want to use on the receivers -- and as already stated, there would be some concern with coating where you don't want it.

There is also the standout question of why on earth would you want to? You realize that powder coat is a great insulator? If you want to change the color, you can use molycote or krylon... either of which has worked for many rifles just fine.

Powder coating is fairly thick...probably too thick for most firearms applications.

If I were you I'd get the metal parts finished in KG gunkote or moly resin, and leave the powder coating for the bumper on your 4WD.

Not to mention with companies like Lauer Weaponry and their 50+ colors of Duracoat that your color mixing skills would be the only limit on what colors you can have.
