If my colt has an Match HBAR does that mean it is not chrome lined or can it still be chrome lined?

My barrel says this

"C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 HBAR"

Not chrome lined then?

Look on the barrel; between the FSB and the FS you should see something like this:

C MP CL or CB 5.56 1/7

stamped into it.....

Go here: www.biggerhammer.net select the AR15 section and then the barrel section and you'll see ther examples of barrel marking and an explantion of their meanings.......

Or you could use the homepage library and tacked thread links atop various forums here on AR15.com as IIRC this information is here too....

It may also have an "0" at the chamber end of the barrel, indicating a chrome lined chamber & bore.

Mike, Colt stopped using the CB markings long ago.

As M4builder mentioned, modern production Colt barrels will have an "O" (sometimes looks like a "C") stamped near the chamber end if they are fully chromelined.

I've owned about a dozen 20" Colt HBAR barrels.  What I have observed in mine is that all of the 1/7 twist barrels were fully chromed; all of the 1/9 barrels were not.  They were all factory threaded barrels; I understand that unthreaded barrels may differ.

I've always assumed that Colt routinely chromes all their 1/7 barrels because they can turn them down to A2 spec and use them in Gov't rifles if they need to.  The 1/9 barrels, on the other hand, are always destined for civilian use.  Just my assumption, though.

Why don't you just look at the rear of the chamber?  If it's chrome lined, there will be a dull silver ring around the rear edge.

I have a early ban era 20" non threaded HBAR that has the "O" mark and is chrome lined

I just bought a post-ban A2 / 20" / 1-7" upper from another board member. When it arrives at the house I will have my wife check out the barrel marking on the muzzle end and pull the hand guards and see what is stamped under there. It was listed as having a chome-lined barrel (and I trust it is, no questions asked) but just want to compare notes to the thread and pass on realitive information.

The more correct information we can put out the better off all board members are. Just makes life easier. Facts vs. guessing or rumor
