| Who has the cheapest FF railed handguards? Who has the cheapest non-FF railed handguards? |

I believe Yankee Hill has quality handguards at a reasonable price. Yankee Hill Handguards Andy |
Can some explain free float? Sorry (Newbie)...I have a M&P15 and want to upgrade so I am curious... thanks in advance |
There are Two main types of handguards. Free Float: The rail locks on to the barrel nut, and "free floats" the barrel. It increases accuracy as there is nothing to influence the barrel when a round is discharged. Non free float: Standard Handguards that have rails. |
A free float handguard doesn't come into contact with the barrel. Anything that is '"clamped" to the barrel can change it's harmonics and decrease accuracy. Welcome, good luck with the upgrades. |

I have a Olympic FIRSH, it works good for the price. Under $100. It is a little on the purple side, but one of these days I intend to paint it. www.olyarms.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=42&Itemid=37

MI is worth taking a good look at. I work with a lot of officers who run MI FF rails and like them. They might not have the name appeal of some companies, or be quite as thin, but they work well enough. Here is a quick guide to installation and a walk through of the MI rail. MI Guide and Pictorial Review |
| I just built a new mid-length upper and used a set of YHM railed handguards (non-FF) and am pleased thus far with them. I will say that these are my first set of rails, so I don't have much to compare with, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend $350 on a set of handguards... |
| there's a thread in the build it yourself section about various free float tubes... keep in mind many of them will require you to remove the delta ring and change out your barrel nut... samson/troy mrf-c rails clamp onto the existing barrel nut, but you'll have to cut off the delta ring... I just got the samson rails and I'm pretty happy... cutting off the delta ring was a cinch too... |

The cheapest non-FF railed handguards are UTG, at $60 and $70. Many here hate the thought of them, but people who use them say they're solid. If you want to go better, jump to the MI. Do a search on UTG to read the various discussions, where the pros and cons are covered over and over. www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/UTG_2-Piece_Rifle_Length_4_Rail_Handguard_w__Rail_covers.html www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/UTG_2-Piece_Carbine_Length_4_Rail_Handguard_w__Rail_covers.html |

Hell, go for the gusto. I love my Daniel Defense lite rail. Free float, narrow and very light weight. I agree, the UTG for an inexpensive hand guard is a good one. Since I got my GSG and have been dealing with "air soft" parts, these hand guards are not air soft quality. The air soft stuff I've got for my GSG is pot metal and plastic. The UTG hand guards are very much tougher than that. Those who don't use them hate them, will never use them and always hate them. Those of us that have know they do what they need to. I would certainly buy another set of UTG before YHM's. |
I think you missed something or found an opportunity to try and start something that isnt there....show me a free float Surefire set up...then show me a free float Surefire set up for $160... Because the OP asked about NON-free float set ups, right? Please pull ahead to the first window.... |
