I have a lower with an H2 buffer that is usually mated with a carbine upper.  I'm purchasing a mid-length upper.
Can I use the lower with my new mid-length upper?

Should I compromise and get the standard H buffer?

The Carbine has the semi BC and Mid will have an auto BC

Your H2 buffer should work with a midlength upper but your bolt cycling speed would be slower, if you would prefer to make it faster go to the lighter H or even standard buffer.

I only use standard buffer on my midlength carbine and it works fine, in my own opinion and experience the midlength gas system don't even need the H buffer.

I also use an auto BCG on my midlength carbine, the only upgrade that I made was I added an extractor O-ring, the extra power extractor spring is not required.

Just to be clear, this lower will be used with a carbine gas system and a mid-length gas system.  I just wanted to be sure that the mid-length would still cycle (my reloads which are a lighter load than XM193 or Q3131) with an H2 buffer.

I've run my 16" middy with an H2 shooting commercial, handloaded, Q3131 and XM193, Remington 45gr Frangible, and it all runs fine.

there's the catch, without testing your personal loads, its not possible to give a positive answer. You'll have to test it to be sure, then, if necessary, modify you load or  change buffers, etc

A midlength will cycle a 9mm buffer so an H2 is a non issue, even with an enhanced power wolff spring.

+1. I run a 9mm buffer in my middie with no issues.
