Has anyone built a rifle with this handguard from Badger Ordnance? I know that their rails, and scope rings are pretty much standard equipment on long range guns and the tac latch is on a ton of AR's. That being said, I can't find many rifles using these handguards.

I hate buying products that I can't put my hands on, or at least read alot of good reviews about. I'm really considering the Critter Slayer Jr. from J&T Dist for 3 gun matches.

Advice would be apprecited. Thanks.

Also...please post pics of your rifle with this handguard if you can!

This is my first post and not sure how to post pics but if you e-mail me at [email protected] I will send pics.

As a paper shooter and not a hunter and not wanting a G I look a like don't need a bUIS as I use a scope and cant see the bloody things anyway but like the AR platform. Have a factory built DPMS 16 inch A1 carbine with a scope (first gun ever) Built an AR with a 20 inch DPMS bull barrel, DPMS gas block, A3 upper with the Badger free float tube and Superior Arms lower and I like it and would recommend it to anyone. Also a 24 inch free float tube bull barrel with a Superior Arms lower and here comes the kicker from a Blackthorn kit. Which bye the way all three shoot better than I can and are used for putting lead down range on target. (At the range one day a ex Vietnam Marine sniper shot the Blackthorn rifle and was a far better shot than I could ever be and liked it without knowing who built it) Probably going to take some crap for that.

If it was an AR beauty competition that I was looking for then the saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder would apply and as I have already said the badger would get my vote but then I did buy a Blackthorn kit and had no problemo's what so ever (A very rare beast according to other posts). Also looking to build a single shot side cocking AR using a receiver from Colman Tyler or Fulton Armory because it will be different.

Also have 5 Winchester 94s and 4 Marlin 336s of various calibers, I reload my own 223 ammo and enjoy shooting all the above. Have no ax to grind with any manufacturer, don't want to knock anybody, just enjoy the privilege of building, owning and shooting US made icons, lets us all hope it stays that way.

I use them all the time and think that they are the best handguard available for precision shooting off of a bench. The handguard is flat on the bottom for superior tracking off  a bench rest. Tactical rails are absolutely worthless for bench shooting and the Badger handguard  gives you the option of mounting stuff.

Here is a pic of a 204 Ruger upper.

Badgers... Badgers?!?! We don't need no stinking Badgers!

Kidding aside, I love my Badger Ord Handguard I have on my AR-10. It's a little heavier than other handguards, but the weight give a lot of stability and it's sturdy!
I didn't know the Canidians were building and using a similar set up with the Badger Ord handguards until I read it in a thread here.

It's got my vote!

The Badger is a wonderful handguard for a target or varment rifle. Look at my sig line for pics.

The sig line is that grey box after his post.  Now, go back and edit your post where you asked the quastion, then I'll edit my response and this will stay just between you and me.  But do it quickly.......

Too late. I saw it and I'm telling EVERYBODY!!! NEWBIE!!! NEWBIE!!!!!!!!

Edited to add - I have a badger on an upper with a standard colt 1/7 mil-spec barrel and it does sub minute groups with good ammo. The badger is a little heavy, but it's great from the bench.

Nice rifle...  Good move keeping it!

But you do need to paint the barrel.

I have no pics, but I have an early (no slots or rail holes) Badger Ord. handguard  on a precision AR and like it a lot.

The square profile works well with either bipod, bags, or hand (w/ or w/o sling). I particularly like that it gives you a definitive reference plane (mainly the flat bottom, but also the sides) to help insure that you are holding the rifle plumb when the range stretches out.

It is heavy...as in HEAVY...especially compared to the current trend of lighter-is-better but I've always come back to it when I've tried round guards on that particular upper.

That said, all my runnin'-n-gunnnin' tactical weapons have round-handguards on them with rails toward the front. For me, the round guards just work better for that.

Advice? Maybe not advice, but every precision AR I get will have the Badger Ord. handguard on it until something very similar but lighter comes along.

Plus, they are still a little unusual and unique...and ya' gotta love that!

As always...YMMV

Thanks guys.  I'm not worried about people knowing I'm new!  Who wasn't right?  Thanks for all the good info.  It will really help me make my decision.

Keep the pics coming though!

I have a DPMS free float handguard on my upper now, & I want to change to a Badger Handguard, Is this a two piece handguard? Do I need special tools to install this? THANKS

Here's the link.  They look like a nice option for a accuracy based rifle.  It's most likely the handguard that I'm putting on my 20" long range AR

Also curious on how the Badger handguards are installed.  I've replaced barrels before and SR free float tubes.  Any additional tools need for the Badger?

Thanks,
