I have a friend who is a Vietnam vet and absolutely hates the M-16/AR-15 weapons He claims they are junk because the last M-16 he had in the Army had so much play between the recievers that it wouldn't shoot straight. Now, Both of my Bushmasters supper tight, but they've been pampered all their life and they don't have a lot of rounds down the tube. Have any of you guys ever seen weapons/recievers that were used hard and were worn out to the point of havingh tons of movement? Also, even if there is excessive movement, how does that affect accuracy? Further more, don't reputable parts - ie no Hesse/Vulcan crap - have a super hard anodizing treatment that makes the aluminum much harder than steel. After all isn't that why steel mags don't wear out aluminum recivers? |

my RRA carbine has some play between the upper and lower receivers. I wanna fix it mainly because u can see light thru the gap if u hold it just right. i really doubt it affects accuracy much, and it being a carbine it ain't all that accurate out past 100 yards anyway. but between the receiver play and the adjustable 6 position stock the damn thing feels sloppy. everything is rock river arms and i love the rifle it shoots very accurately. i have only shot it about 10 different times and only have a $30 removeable carry handle on the flattop for a rear sight. with this setup sighted in at 25 yards i can hold a 1" group pretty consistently. wish i had a place outdoors so i could try some longer range shooting. plus the indoor range will only let me shoot their cheapo hollow points in fear of my fmj's coming out the back of their building and into the adjacent office complex. i am thinking of getting that red thingy u can put in there that is supposed to get rid of play between receivers. anyone know if it's worth $5? also, any advice on a cheap 6 position carbine stock that isn't so sloppy? |
Yes, in Basic Training.
Not at all, for reasons posted above by another poster. |
Interesting. The point the AMU makes about not affecting accuracy, but affecting shooter confidence is an important one. I've shot NRA Highpower Service rifle, and I shoot HP and SB Silhouette, and to this shooter, confidence in one's gear plays a large role. I like knowing that misses are mine to correct. I may have to try "bedding" my rear lug as it seems the AMU does. |
Some have more slop than others even when factory new. Some will have even more with use & wear. I've never heard of or expierenced a degradation in accuracy due to upper/lower slop. |
