I was just wondering what that big hole was near the muzzle end of the quad rail sides is for.  It's the square looking opening on the 3 and 9 o'clock sides of the rail.  Then there's that piece of plastic looking thing that looks like it's supposed to cover the hole.  Some of the rail sets I've seen don't seem to have them.  What's the theory behind this design and how does it work?  Are there some sets that don't have the plastic cover?
I have numerous rail systems including Surefire, DD, and LaRue for carbines.  This is the first quadrail I'm thinking about getting for a 20" rifle. Thanks.

When you remove the bottom rail, in order to attach an M203 those slots are designed so that the top rail will fit over the QD M203 mount.

Oh ok thanks.  That makes perfect sense.  If I get one that doesn't come with the covers, is there any place I could order some? I couldn't find any anywhere.  Thanks.

They come permanently attached to the lower rail. It will be included with your order for sure.

If you are talking about the plastic rail covers go here about 3/4 down the page.

Well, this was the auction I won off ebay, and it just doesn't look like they're there.  I" know the picture is small, but can you guys tell if it's there?  If they're broken or missing I guess I'll return it since the seller is claiming that the item is in new condition.  Thanks guys.

One more thing just cropped up.  The rails are going on a Rock River Standard A4 which comes with a Wilson 1:9 HBAR.  I've read elsewhere that some HBARs aren't compatible with the M5 RAS.  Does anyone know if I'll be able to use the KAC or if I'll have to return it and get a different quad rail.  Thanks again guys.

IIRC

the RAS should fit HBAR if the barrel's diameter measure  0.835" - 0.855" near the handguards cap

I think the Rock River uses a 1:9 Wilson Arms 20" HBAR with Wylde Chamber and is chrome moly.  I can't find the diameter specs anywhere, but from similar products, most are about .92 which means a "no-go."  Other than the Surefire M82 handguards, does anyone else know of a good full length 12" quadrail that is easy to install?  I know DD and LaRue make awesome free float ones, but I'm looking for an easy on, easy off type.  I don't want to get one where I'll have to take it to the gunsmith for installation.  Seems like 20" guns are getting less and less common.  I wonder if it has something to do with the AWB sunset......Thanks.

to be sure you should find someone who has a RRA HBAR and ask him about the barrel's diameter...

the Midwest Industries MCTAR-19 is another good option

I don't know the barrel diameter but I can confirm from personal experience that an M5 RAS WILL NOT fit on a standard RRA A4 upper.

It WILL fit on a standard Bushmaster A4 upper.

You'll be fine. I have one on a Bushmaster HBAR.

Ok, since I  haven't gotten the rifle shipped yet, I called the dealer I was getting it from and switched it to a Bushmaster A3.  Hope it will work now.  I'm sure it will since you guys have Bushys and they work.  Thank you guys so much.

I have a few questions regarding Bushmasters though.  I used to have an older Bushmaster made back in 2000 or 1999.  It was of very good quality and I never had any problems whatsoever.  Recently, I have heard that some people claim that the quality control of Bushmaster have gone down due to the expansion of the company and outsourcing more and more parts.  Is this pure baloney or is there some truth to it?  How about the QC of current Bushmasters?

I know if the bolt assembly is no good I could easily swap it out, but I'm afraid of getting something like a canted fsb or warped barrel.  I know it sounds paranoid, but I have had bad experiences with other guns before.....and I'm one of those guys who must make it right and immediately which usually costs me a good deal of $$$. If I wind up having to replace the barrel, then I just shot myself in the foot by paying the extra for the Bushy right?  After all, I could buy a Govt profile 20" barrel and change it out on the RRA......oh well, I hope all goes well.  Thanks again everyone.

Bushmaster will take care of any problems you may have with your firearm free of charge. They have great customer service.

You're good to go, the only rare problem I've seen with Bushmasters is gas keys not staked properly, and you can do that yourself easily.

My fortune with this thing just keeps on getting better.  I got the rails in today, and they're missing the rear locking bracket screw.  I think I'm going to Lowe's or Home Depot to see if I can find a same sized screw.....unless I can order one straight from Knights.

I just got back from Lowe's.  No screws in that size.  Searched everywhere online.  Can't find a damn screw of that size.  Now I'm really stumped and pissed at the same time.  Anyone have any clue how I might be able to get that screw?  Thanks!
